Sandpoint has a great love for horses. Around the region you can find numerous private ranches, as well as severalresources for various equestrian adventures. You can either rent a horse, or If you have your own you can find many trails. There are trails in the Trestle Creek, Gold Creek, Trout Creek and Rapid Lightening Creek drainages.
The U.S. Forest Service has maps which provide detailed trail information, plus Schweitzer has several trails as well as Mountain Home Adventures if you don’t have your horse here.
There are also unique horses for sale in the area. Every year the International Draft Horse Show has a sale at the Bonner County Fairgrounds with numerous breeds being showcased. Other popular breeds in the area include the Appaloosa, Paint and the Quarter Horse.

Family-owned and operated Rider Ranch is a working cattle and horse ranch just 20 minutes east of Coeur d'Alene. The Riders offer guided trail rides February through November (weather permitting) and dinner rides May through the end of September. Friendly, knowledgeable guides point out local flora and fauna and ensure a safe trip. Hayrides are also available almost year round (weather permitting), by reservation.
